B.Tech Thesis Abstract: Electric Machine Analysis Using Field Theory

Traditionally electric machines have been analyzed using circuit theory. Such analysis has a number of limitations. In this project work an attempt has been made to analyze electric machine problems using field theory. Numerical techniques have been employed (finite difference method, finite element method) in order to fully exploit the computational powers of a personal computer.

Special emphasis has been given to the analysis of dc machines. A four pole field excited dc machine has been analyzed in detail. The air gap flux pattern and the torque developed have been studied.

A 2-pole PMDC (permanent magnet direct current) machine has also been modeled and investigated.
